KatTip to beat Covid 19 - Tip number 8 Looking after your mental health : the 5 Cs

Our mental well-being can take a hammering from the threat of COVID-19 and the changes imposed by the lockdown.

Use these C words :-) as reminders of what we can do to stay resilient.

Control
Define what you can control and what you can't. You can keep yourself and your loved ones safe by practising social distancing, good handwashing etc. We have no control over things like how the virus behaves or when effective vaccines become available. Accept these, put them into perspective and live with them as the given at this point in time

Care
Self-care ranges from eating well and healthily, taking our regular meds and supplements to daily grooming and regular exercises to stay fit and get that dose of endorphin rush. Make an effort to feel good and look good for yourself. Start with something simple - a good skin care routine

Continuity
Routines and normality are particularly important during this open ended lockdown as we await the new normality. Anchor your daily routines around wake-up, bed and mealtimes. Get out of your sleep wear as you normally would and try to eat no more frequently than pre-COVID. Non-stop Netflix shouldn't equate to non-stop snacking.

Connect
Staying together even when apart is not just a cliche. Call, message, facetime as thoughts of friends and family come to you. This is a good time to renew ties and rebuild bridges too.

Compassion
Start with being kind to yourself. This is a time of crisis and most of us have never faced anything like this before. It's ok to feel scared, anxious or angry. It's ok to not to be your usual productive self.
