The common features of acne are whiteheads, blackheads and spots. These are manifestations of entrapped sebum plugs in the pores (usually caused by excessive sebum production and inadequate exfoliation of the skin leading to dead skin cells blocking the pores).
In treating patients with acne, I focus a great deal on fundamentals like the type of face wash, toner and scrubs to control oiliness and to encourage exfoliation.
Salicylic acid often plays an important role as one of the active ingredients in these products. My patients are usually introduced to Environ Sebuwash and Sebutone or ZO Skin Health Offects Exfoliating Cleanser and TE Pads as their daily cleanser and toner. In addition, I also encourage my patients to replace their non-active moisterisers (which often add to the problem) with an active Vitamin A product to begin to repair and strengthen their skin.
Typically, the patients will also be having regular facial treatments to complement their homecare. I have found the Hydrafacial MD to be particularly helpful in the management of acne due to its modes of action.
The images below illustrate the effectiveness of simple changes in the skincare routine coupled with an effective facial treatment like Hydrafacial:
In some instances, the patients are also seen by our medical staff to consider additional treatments like antibiotics and laser therapy.
Do feel free to get in touch with me to discuss your skincare further.
