C02 Skin Laser at Kat & Co

This month we're talking about our C02 skin laser at Kat & Co with TeamKat's Dr Sonia Khorana.

We offer a wide range of CO2 skin laser treatments to our patients and we asked Dr Sonia to explain more about the C02 skin laser and the benefits it can provide.

So what is laser resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a proven way to help reduce wrinkles, sagging, acne scars, and other blemishes as well as tighten skin.

We use a carbon dioxide laser to precisely target the layers of skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures. This encourages healing and collagen stimulation to replace damaged skin and leave you with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

What happens during the treatment?

You will have a thorough skin assessment and consultation prior to treatment and we will perform a patch test to assess your skin€™s response to the laser.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing is usually done with topical anaesthetic application (usually 30-60 minutes before), meaning minimal discomfort during the procedure. We also have the ability to perform a light peel using the cool peel technology which has minimal downtime and discomfort.

We can also treat the skin around the eyes by using intraocular eyeshields (with topical anaesthetic). This procedure is known as €œthe Madonna eye lift€.

What to expect after treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be red, similar to a minor sunburn. This may last a few days and, depending on the type of the treatment, you may also experience some swelling or flaking of the skin. This is a natural exfoliation process that may last 7-10 days.

With the new laser technology at Kat & Co, we have the ability to reduce downtime without compromising on results.

When can I see results?

Generally, you will see the difference you want after only one treatment.

In the days after the treatment, your skin will gradually look softer, smoother and with less unwanted pigmentation. The fine lines, wrinkles and uneven texture will start to show improvement. We advise waiting 2-3 months to see full results and discuss the final results you want with your doctor in order to provide a correct treatment schedule.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

A common misconception is that laser resurfacing is only safe for light skin types. While it is true that certain lasers pose a higher risk for cell damage or discolouration in darker skin. We have extensive knowledge in laser resurfacing procedures and experience working with darker skinned patients.
