Machu Pichu, the sacred ancient lost city of the Incas in Peru, hidden three thousand feet above sea level in the clouds, this is my destination.
Arrived at Cusco, a large town near the trail to acclimatise ourselves to the atlttude for 3 days before starting the trail. Had a bout of altitude sickness. Slept for 12 hours, took some dexamethsone steroid, ibuprofen, paracetamol, lots of coca tea(same stuff as cocaine) and felt better. I am ready to kick ass now.
The famous Inca Trail is a 4 day and 3 night hike linking the Sacred Valley to Machu Pichu. We (a group of 4) will be led by a guide and a team of 8 sherpas (porters), who will be carrying the camping equipment, and of course a cook.
As you can see from the picture, the days are sunny (15 to 20 degrees) and the nights cold and dry (0 to 5 degrees). So I am armed with my hat, long sleeved cotton shirt and favourite sun protection - Environ RAD and Hydration set. I am a firm believer in looking good even in rough conditions.
Will update in the next few days before we start on the trail when there will then be no communication for 4 days!
