Face And Neck Lift At Kat & Co: Understanding The Technique

So, what is the purpose of the face and neck lift? As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and begins to droop, and the facial muscles also slacken. The natural fat beneath the skin can sag, contributing to an older appearance. Drastic weight loss can further age the face. Often, the rate at which the face ages doesn't align with the rest of the body or mind, leaving you feeling like the face you see in the mirror doesn't reflect how you feel.

Face lift surgery, known as Rhytidectomy, addresses this issue by tightening and reducing skin that has lost its natural elasticity, resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance. The Face and Neck lift  procedure lifts the lower face (jowls) and the marionette lines and helps to define the jaw line along with the neck lift.

Cosmetic surgery can effectively tackle several age-related concerns, including:

  • Sagging cheeks or "jowls"
  • Excess skin around the lower jawline
  • Excess fat and skin around the neck (when combined with a neck lift)
  • Skin folds or creases running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth

By addressing these concerns, a face lift can help restore a more youthful and refreshed look, better aligning your outer appearance with how you feel inside.

Face and Neck Lift Technique:

Incisions:

Incisions are typically made along the hairline at the temples, continuing around the ear, and ending in the lower scalp. The exact placement depends on the patient's anatomy and whether neck lift is required.

Skin Elevation:

The skin is carefully separated from the underlying SMAS layer and is elevated. This step allows access to the deeper facial structures while preserving skin integrity.

SMAS Imbrication:

The SMAS layer, a fibrous network of tissue and muscle, is identified beneath the elevated skin. The imbrication means that the SMAS is sutured to itself and to stable structures in the face to secure the lift. The SMAS is imbricated in 3D fashion using the W shaped suturing technique that tightens the SMAS upward, inward and obliquely creating the illusion of flattened lateral cheek under the cheek bone but at the same time auto enhances the midcheek portion to give a more youthful appearance. This technique enhances the mid-face and jawline, reducing jowling and improving facial contours (See in video).

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery from face and neck lifts can vary, but most patients can expect:

  • Initial Healing: Swelling and bruising are common in the first few weeks. Pain can be managed with prescribed medications.
  • Stitches and Dressings: Stitches are usually removed within a week or two, and dressings may be required to support healing.
  • Activity Restrictions: Strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks, although light activities can usually be resumed within a few days.
  • Follow-Up Appointments: Regular follow-up visits with your surgeon ensure proper healing and address any concerns.

Face and neck lifts offer a comprehensive solution for those seeking to counteract the signs of ageing and achieve a more youthful, vibrant appearance. By understanding the procedure, and recovery process, you can make an informed decision about whether this transformative surgery is right for you.
