Meet Our New Special Interest Dentist – Oral Surgery Dr. Andrew Kalli: Edgbaston Smile Clinic

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Andrew Kalli to our dental family as our new Special Interest Dentist in Oral Surgery. With a passion for excellence and years of experience in oral surgery, Dr. Kalli brings a wealth of expertise to our practice.

Dr Andrew graduated from University of Birmingham with Honors and Clinical Distinction. He takes pride in keeping up to date with the latest techniques and treatments. In 2018, Andrew completed examinations permitting membership to the renowned Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 2022, further skills were assessed as part of a Master’s Degree in Oral Surgery. This additional surgical training beyond the scope of a general dentist allows exodontia (tooth removal) to be undertaken as smoothly and comfortably as possible.

Oral Surgery at Edgbaston Smile Clinic:

In some circumstances, tooth extraction may be the most efficient and predictable way to treat dental pain and infection. Common reasons for tooth extraction include extensive damage or if there is not enough space for the teeth in the mouth, which is typical of many wisdom teeth.

The Oral Surgery service at Edgbaston Smile Clinic ensures that tooth extractions are a safe, pain-free and comfortable procedure.

The wide range of equipment available to us means that extractions which are sometimes referred to Dental Hospitals can be done routinely at Edgbaston Smile Clinic at your convenience, avoiding long waiting lists. These include:

1) Impacted wisdom teeth

2) Broken teeth

3) Roots stuck in the gum

4) Teeth with long roots close to nerves or the sinus

Top tips for tooth extraction aftercare:

1) Eating – Have a soft diet for the first 24 hours and keep food away from the extraction site. Remember it is important to stay nourished and hydrated for a good recovery.

2) Take it easy – Try to avoid heavy lifting, this is a chance to rest and relax. Keep yourself comfortable and take pain relief (what you normally would take for a headache). Refrain from alcohol and tobacco for at least 24 hours to allow optimal healing.

3) Keep the area clean – Brush your teeth as normal from the evening of your treatment (unless you have been advised by your surgeon otherwise). It is fair to avoid brushing the extraction area itself. It is important to avoid harsh spitting or mouth rinsing in the first 24 hours as both of these motions can disrupt the blood clot.
