My experience in hair removal

Guest Blogger: Kelly Umbers, Skin Therapist, CC Kat Aesthetics

Having been in the beauty industry for a while, I have used a range of methods for hair removal. One of the FAQs I encounter is " Which is the most effective form of hair removal?"

Waxing is probably the most popular method because of the low cost and apparent effectiveness. However, it's generally very painful and can sometimes cause problem with ingrowing hair, particularly in people with coarse and curly hair. Ingrown hair can lead to infection and subsequent scarring. I would therefore encourage clients who suffer fromingrowing hair to avoid waxing. And I would also recommend using a scrub exfoliant to help reduce the risk of ingrowing hair if you must continue to wax.

Shaving is another common option. The effect is obviously short lived and can literally turn into a daily chore. It can also cause local irritation and redness and stubble re-growth isn't exactly attractive.

Of the newer technology, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machines are more commonly available as compared to lasers due to lower cost. IPL treatments are generally quite painful and time consuming. So pack a lunch if you are planning to have the whole leg treated.

At our clinic, hair reduction is done using a diode laser, the Soprano XL. In a very short time, this has become my weapon of choice for depilation. This laser is designed with a cool tip to ensure comfort and the in-motion technology enables coverage of a large area in a relatively short time. The experience is very similar to that of having a hot stone massage. I have seen amazing results in hair reduction with this laser. My client base has built up in a short time through word of mouth recommendations, with patients bringing in their friend and relatives.

In short, I wholeheartedly recommend the Soprano XL for hair reduction because of the level of comfort and effectiveness.
