Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP) has been in use in the various fields of medicine for more than two decades; it is widely used for the treatment of burns, wound healing, scars, orthopaedic surgery and plastic surgery for its healing properties.
PRP is obtained by spinning the patient's own blood in a centrifuge. The resultant golden coloured liquid so derived contains a high concentration of platelets (hence 'platelet rich') with a high level of growth factors and bioactive proteins.
PRP is used in aesthetic medicine for it's regenerative and rejuvenative properties. Specifically, PRP stimulates thickening of the superfical layer of the skin, encourages collagen restructuring and improves blood supply and cell regeneration.
The mechanism of action of PRP is different and produces a more subtle and gradual effect in reducing lines and improving tones and appearance of the skin.
In aesthetic rejuvenation, PRP can be used either as a natural alternative to botulinum toxins or fillers or in conjunction with the two treatments to augment the effects. The main indications for use are :
The PRP can be injected into the skin or used in combination with laser treatments and microneedling.
Our treatment protocol consists of having 3 treatments, 2 to 4 weeks apart depending on the nature of the treatment. It is recommended that the treatment is repeated every 6 to 12 months.
Each treatment session typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. A topical anaesthetic cream is used to minimise discomfort. Redness and bruising can be covered with mineral makeup the next day. Like any injectables, complications are rare but includes infection, bleeding, excessive bruising. There is no risk of allergic reaction as it is the patient's own blood component.
The cost of each treatment session for fine lines is �400 or �1000 for a course of 3 treatments (recommended). Treatment for deeper lines and volume loss is charged at �600 per session or �1500 for a course of 3 treatments (recommended).
