I was recently asked by my boss to think about how patients decide on where they should have their skin treatments as i work in both a clinic and a spa.
What are the differences between a Spa and a Clinic aside from the obvious differences in the range of treatments and team composition ?
Thinking about the SpasI have encountered both as a therapist and as a client, the overall treatment experience is probably the top priority for any spa. The focus is very much on relaxation and pleasure.
There are many aspects clients think about when making a decision on where to go.
The focus of both is diverse and yet along the same path. A clinics focus is more towards anti-ageing, turning back the clock, results and product prescriptions. Getting the best measurable results in the least possible time and achieving patient's expectations.
Both are a reliable and professional service with quality customer care. Documentation is extremely important to both but more detailed notes are recorded and kept within a clinic.
The focus for a Spa is about the whole client experience, creating a memory full of luxury and relaxation. From the aroma to the dimmed lighting this is sure to dazzle your senses. They pride themselves on signature treatments adding a personal touch to aid client loyalty. (Similar to CC Kat Aesthetics Deluxe HydraFacial). But do they offer results?
The difference in the levels of effectiveness of treatments they are able to offer is on a much smaller scale in comparison to a clinic.
Being in a clinical/ medical setting it allows you to offer more abrasive, more effective, new and innovative procedures in the Aesthetic Industry. This results driven industry is ever expanding and having highly qualified staff allows you to provide these procedures.
Both pride themselves on reputation and this can prove to be their most effective marketing tool. With this in mind one main difference tends to be that a Spa will choose to provide a cosmetic product range where as a clinic stocks and provides various Cosmeceutical ranges which include peels and a wide variety of homecare products to compliment the treatments offered.
These cosmetic ranges are usually well marketed and widely available making them easily accessible and familiar to potential clients's giving Spas a mild advantage in gaining new clients.
Cosmeceutical ranges such as Environ and ZO by Zein Obagi gain significant media coverage and have been created using medical research and advanced science. However they are only available to buy in reputable skin clinics. The ZO Medical range must be prescribed by a suitable practitioner due to the strong content of ingredients. Results from these ranges are significant and they can be used to treat different skin conditions such as ageing, pigmentation, acne and acne scarring.
In conclusion Medi Spas/ Clinics offer a wide variety of effective procedures and treatments and scientific based products which achieve results. With this in mind my priority for treatment would be a clinic where the assurance of luminous skin, with my expectation being achieved and the desired results accomplished. This fills me with confidence that the high standards of treatment provided will treat my concerns and deliver a great outcome.
So if you are looking to achieve results, look no further!!
