Sun protection year round

As bonfire night approaches, it's timely to remember to protect your skin when outdoor.

Just like exercising care around fire and fireworks because of the damage they can cause, sun protection is important year round because of the damage that thesun rays can cause to the skin. In general we need protection from both UVA and UVB rays.

UVA rays are the longer wavelength light which can damage the deeper layers of your skin without burning, eventually producing the signs of photoageing such as wrinkles and pigmentations. We are exposed to UVA even on overcast days.

Sunburn is associated with UVB rays which have a much shorter wavelength. Unlike UVA, you will feel your skin becoming warmer as you are exposed to UVB rays. The more intense the sunlight is, the stronger the UVB rays are. This is the cancer causing rays.

So when you are watching those fireworks and taking care not to get burnt, remember the ongoing damage done by the sun. So use an SPF in the day year round.
