The surgeon should be shot!

The most important tenet of a doctor/surgeon - ' First do no harm'.

Last week ITV talk show'This Morning' controversially played host to American 'professional feature dancer' Chelsea Charms. Charms is said to be in possession of the largest breasts on the planet as a result of extensive surgical enhancement. Charms' appearance as a guest on the show sparked a great deal of controversy from viewers as she was quizzed on her decision to get breast surgery that enlarged her naturally D cup breasts to an XX cup that is extremely out of proportion with her petite 5"3 frame.

The implants look to be at least 5Kg (12lbs) each. So in total Ms Charms is carrying a total of one and a half stones ( 2 very large babies) of weight on her chest.

Her short term and long term physical problems will be - poor mobility; difficulty in breathing due to the weight on her chest wall; arthritis and pain of her neck, shoulder and back joints; deterioration of her posture; severe thinning out (atrophy) of her own breast tissue due to the pressure of the implant.

Breast implant surgery for women is the commonest cosmetic surgery worldwide and for a good reason. It is technically very straightforward, has minimal risk of complications and is very effective. When the rignt size and shape of implant is chosen for each individual woman, it restores the female form and gives women back their femininity and confidence.

The above example makes a travesty of the procedure and may put women offwhat can be a positive life changiing experience. As I've said- ' the surgeon should be shot!'.
