Different types of face lift - which is right for me?

Surgical Facelifts vs. Non-Surgical Treatments

At Kat & Co we offer a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments. Which is best for you will depend on your individual requirements, preferences, and goals.

Some patients may feel more comfortable choosing a non-surgical options, such as the CACI non-surgical facelift, due to personal or medical reasons. Non-surgical treatments are less invasive, requires no anaesthetic and less recovery time for the patient. For a full list of all our non-surgical procedures for the face, click here.

Non-surgical treatments can also be more appropriate for treating particular skin concerns such as pigmentation, acne, or rosacea.

Types of Facelifts

There are many factors and considerations in determining which type of face lift is right for you. Different types of facelift target different areas of the face and have varying costs. Additionally, some facelifts are more invasive than others, requiring longer recovery times and twilight anaesthesia instead of local anaesthesia. Ageing also plays a significant factor in the effectiveness of different procedures - a more extensive SMAS facelift may be recommended for older patients, whereas a mini-facelift may be more appropriate for patients with fewer signs of ageing. Your consultant plastic surgeon will discuss all these concerns with you in your consultation and recommend the best course of treatment for you and your aesthetic goals.

1. MACS Facelift

MACS stands for minimal access cranial suspension facelift. It is most suitable for patients with moderate facial drooping and loose skin. The MACS facelift restores the smoothness of the skin and the contour of the neck and face.

Incisions are made in the hairline and are typically quite short to reduce scarring. The resulting scars are very discreet, hidden behind the hairline. Your surgeon will tighten your facial muscles to create a more youthful appearance.

The MACS facelift is less invasive than a SMAS facelift, but more invasive than our mini-facelift options. It requires a moderate recovery time but can typically be done under either local or twilight anaesthesia. It is also more expensive than mini-facelift treatments, starting from £6,765. Your surgeon will recommend this treatment if you have significant signs of ageing which may not be treated as effectively with a mini-facelift, but do not require a SMAS Lift (Extended MACS facelift).

2. SMAS Facelift (Extended MACS facelift)

The SMAS Facelift is the most extensive facelift we offer, targeting both sagging skin and the underlying muscular structures of the face. It is most suitable for patients with significant facial drooping and loose skin. The SMAS facelift dramatically restores the smoothness of the skin and youthfulness and firmness of the neck and face.

The musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS) is a thin layer of muscle and connective tissue located deep within the subcutaneous fat in the mid and lower face. Incisions are made in the hairline and extend down in front of and around the ears. The resulting scars are very discreet, hidden behind the ears and hair. Your surgeon will smooth and reshape the SMAS layer to reduce drooping skin and wrinkles, and rejuvenate your face.

The SMAS facelift is more invasive than the other treatments we offer and will often require a longer recovery time. This procedure is typically done under twilight anaesthesia. It is also our most expensive facelift treatment, starting from £7,875. Your surgeon will recommend this treatment if you have significant signs of ageing which may not be treated as effectively with other methods.

3. One Stitch Mini-Facelift

The one stitch mini facelift is a skin excision facelift. It is ideal for individuals who require a very short recovery time - 48 hours.

The procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic which reduces many of the risks associated with surgery. It subtly improves the appearance of the face in front of the ears. The fee includes 2 sessions of the procedure with an interval of 6 to 9 months.

This procedure is also less expensive than other facelifts, starting from £3,920.

4. Two Stitch Mini-Facelift

The two stitch mini Facelift is our most popular facelift. It is an advanced version of thread lifts. Conventional thread lifts involve the use of barbed threads of various descriptions, with no removal of excess skin, and the duration of the results are dependent on the scarring and fibrosis that follow.

Both the two stitch mini facelift and its predecessor, the one stitch mini facelift, involves the removal of skin from the front of the ears. It is a minimally invasive procedure which can be carried out safely under local anaesthesia. It has evolved from the one stitch mini facelift and has an improved longevity as it involves lifting the SMAS. It is ideal for patients with moderate facial aging.

This procedure is also less expensive than other full facelifts, starting from £4,860.

5. Necklift

A Neck Lift or Platysmaplasty, removes loose skin along the jaw line and on the neck itself, resulting in a smoother, wrinkle-free neck and jaw line. This procedure is often combined with a facelift to dramatically rejuvenate one's overall appearance.

Incisions are made in the hairline and are typically quite short to reduce scarring. The resulting scars are very discreet, hidden behind the hairline. Your surgeon will tighten your loose skin to create a more uplifted and youthful appearance to the neck.

This procedure is typically performed under twilight anaesthesia and requires a moderate recovery time. Necklift surgery starts from £6,965
